Irving, Texas was originally known as Gorbitt. Julius Otto Schulze and Otis Brown were the founders of Irving, Texas. The town was named after Washington Irving. The Kit and Lively Schools were the primary educational sources in 1909. In 1956, the University of Dallas was built in Irving. In 1977, The North Lake campus of Dallas Community College began.

 

In 1971, t he Dallas Cowboys and Texas Stadium came to Irving, Texas with Major Robert Power. Irving became the home of the Las Colinas Urban Center, the Boy Scouts of America headquarters, Exxon Mobil headquarters, and the Zale Corporation. Irving, Texas was known for cotton, dairy farming and poultry production. Frank Pate was the first town fire marshal. In 1939, C.C. Anderson became the town secretary. In 1955, Plymouth Park Shopping Center opened. Then in 1964, the Irving Community Hospital began providing health services.

 

Irving, Texas annually celebrates Canalfest and the Texas Pinball Festival. Canalfest is a true Venitian carnival with a boat parade, clowns and magicians.  The Texas Pinball Festival is a three day celebration of pinball with tournaments, exhibitors and free pinball games.
